MOTS-c is a 16-amino-acid peptide encoded not in the cell nucleus but in mitochondrial DNA, within the gene for 12S ribosomal RNA. It was described in 2015 and is one of a small group of known mitochondrial-derived peptides.

Important notice
This product is for laboratory and research use only. It is not for human or veterinary use. By ordering, you confirm it will be used only for in-vitro research.
Reconstitution required
This peptide ships freeze-dried and needs a diluent such as bacteriostatic water before use. Bacteriostatic water is sold separately.
Description
About MOTS-c
MOTS-c is a 16-amino-acid peptide encoded not in the cell nucleus but in mitochondrial DNA, within the gene for 12S ribosomal RNA. It was described in 2015 and is one of a small group of known mitochondrial-derived peptides.
In cell and mouse studies, MOTS-c has been examined as a regulator of metabolism. It has been reported to act on the folate cycle and on AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK), to affect glucose uptake in skeletal muscle, and to move into the nucleus under metabolic stress, where it influences gene expression. Its levels have also been studied in relation to exercise and age. It is used in laboratory research on mitochondrial signalling, insulin sensitivity and metabolic ageing.
Form and storage
Supplied as a lyophilised (freeze-dried) powder in a sealed vial. Keep unopened vials cold, dry and out of direct light: refrigerated for short periods, frozen for longer storage. Our guide to storing lyophilised peptides summarises the published stability research.
For laboratory research use only. Not for human or veterinary use.

Who tests it?
Where we hold a lab test report (LC-MS purity and identity) it's published in full, with the lab's own verification link. Other lots ship with the supplier's batch specification.

1Research use only
MOTS-c is supplied for in-vitro and laboratory research. It is not a medicine, food, supplement or cosmetic, and is not for human or veterinary use. Handle it under your institution's safety procedures, with suitable protective equipment, in a properly equipped laboratory.
2Lyophilised peptides in transit
Freeze-dried peptides travel as a dry solid in a sealed vial, which is far more robust than a solution. When the parcel arrives, move the vials to cold storage, away from light and moisture.
Frequently asked
Why does the vial look almost empty?
A few milligrams of freeze-dried peptide is a very small amount of solid. It often dries as a thin film or small cake on the base or wall of the vial, which is easy to miss. It dissolves once the vial is reconstituted.
Is bacteriostatic water included?
No. Diluent is sold separately, and the peptide calculator works out concentration and draw volume for the amount of water you add.
